Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

Who should volunteer for LVA?
Anyone who cares about illiteracy and its devastating effect on thousands
of lives. You must be at least 18 years old to be a tutor.

Who would I be tutoring?
Our Basic Literacy Program is for individuals over the age of 18 who read below the fifth grade level. The English-as-a-second-language Program is for individuals speaking minimal English.

What if I’ve never tutored before?
We provide training for all tutors, previous teaching experience is not required.

How much of my time will it take?
Two hours once a week is all we ask.

What if I don’t want to tutor. Can I still volunteer?
Absolutely.  LVA is managed on a mostly volunteer basis. You can help with fundraisers, community events, small group classes, and/or in the office.

Who do I contact to volunteer?
Call us at 404-377-READ (7323) or email Tonya Parkes-Burkett .
