Information for Volunteers
LVA has several volunteer opportunity areas:
- Tutors
- Classroom teachers
- Classroom assistants
- Other needs
If you’re interested in becoming a Basic Literacy or ESOL tutor, please complete our tutor application form (.doc) and fax or mail it to our office. We conduct orientation sessions each month; for exact dates and times, please contact Angela Green, assessment at lvama.org.
Tutor Training
Actual tutor training consists of 16 hours of instruction; you’ll receive the current schedule when you attend the orientation session above. We ask tutors to pay a small fee to cover the cost of the tutor workbook and other materials, all of which are yours to keep; paying this small fee also helps us keep tutoring free for each LVA student.
Learn More
You can also train specifically to become a classroom assistant, or a full instructor. Or you can become an office volunteer. You will learn more about all these opportunities when you attend the orientation session mentioned above — that is the introductory step for all LVA volunteers. For exact dates and times, please contact Angela Green, assessment at lvama.org
