LVA Events

Spellabration

Spellabration combines two of LVA's long running traditions and annual fundraisers. The result is a unique celebration of literacy including a speed Scrabble Tournament and a Spelling Bee. Spellabration is an event that promotes the written word in a way that is fun and yet very different from the experiences of our students.

This year's Spellabration will be held June 13, 2013 at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, from 5:30–8:30 pm.

Some of Atlanta’s finest companies engage in friendly competition and show their support for literacy.

Edible Books Festival

Edible Books Festival - LVA

The Edible Book Festival, a culinary celebration of the book, encourages reading as an essential life skill. In short, it’s a fun, often tongue-in-cheek fundraiser that gives professional and home chefs of all ages an opportunity to showcase their creations and raise money for a very good cause. All proceeds will support the adult literacy programs offered by LVA.

This year the Festival will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur. Morrison Senior Living, a provider of dining and environmental services for 920 hospitals and senior communities, is our sponsor.

Entries in three categories: Professional Chefs and Culinary Students, Home Chefs: Adults and Teens and Children (age 12 and under) will compete for category and overall event awards.

The doors will be open to the public from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Awards winners will be announced at 2:45 pm. A live auction of the professional chef’s entries will begin at 3:15 pm. Other entries will be available for purchase in a silent auction that closes at 3:00 pm.

Entry applications will be accepted beginning February 15th. You may review the rules, see the list of the awards and access an entry application at the links below.
